DESCRIPTION:
Nestled in a natural setting, Hospitality House of Winston-Salem is designed to provide patient's family members with a relaxing home away from home environment. The new project serves patient's families receiving medical treatment from Forsyth Medical Center and North Carolina Baptist Hospital. The care and support of these family members contributes to the patient's healing process and early release from the hospital.
The building plan is organized around a pod concept that provides 6 guest bedrooms with support spaces including kitchen, dining, lounge and laundry facilities. Kitchens are design to allow families to cook and serve their own meals. Dining areas feature large glass windows that overlook the scenic grounds of the campus. All support spaces are arranged for small group interaction between family members to encourage emotional support. Phase I has four pods with centralized public spaces and staff support functions. Public spaces include a central two story lobby with fireplace, multi-purposes rooms, fitness center, game room, meditation room and business center. Outdoor patios are provided directly off the first floor and the second floor has a spacious outdoor balcony area.
Each guest room is furnished with one queen size and one twin bed, a recliner, table with chairs, private bath and individual temperature controls. An apartment suite is located inside the building for 24 hour staff supervision and family support.
Phase II will double the size of the building adding 48 additional beds to the program. The building has been carefully planned to allow for the Phase II expansion with minimal disruption to the site or operations of the Phase I building.
Construction is anticipated to begin in year 2008.
