26 Aug Acute Care

This $89 million dollar project included a four-story addition to Atrium Health Cabarrus along with $16 million of infrastructure upgrades to the hospital campus.
The First Floor is shared by the Cardiology and Interventional Radiology Departments, and includes Cath Labs, IR Labs, EP Labs, and Pre/Post bays. Diagnostic Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine are also found on this floor.
The patient wings were located on the second and third floors, and had a total of 60 patients of varying acuity. A mechanical level is located on the Fourth Floor, and there is a half basement for utilities and bed storage.
The Bedtower was designed as a high-rise to add three additional floors in the future. The addition ties into two existing buildings on the campus and includes additional connectors on Levels 3 and 4.
The project only caused minimum disruption to the hospital, and we were able to keep the main connecting corridor functional throughout construction.
The Architectural and Interior Design Team used 3D Renderings to present the design. Artwork was a mixture of posters and original works. Original artwork was placed in the new Waiting Room and posters placed throughout the new building.
