BIM Technology



Since 2009, Wright McGraw Beyer Architects has been fully engaged in and dedicated to the use of BIM throughout the design process, and became 100% Revit-based in 2012. Prior to 2009, WMBA utilized BIM software as a design tool in several projects, including the Bedtower addition at CHS Pineville.  3D Modeling was used to generate an immersive digital mockup of the renovations and additions.  In addition to showcasing spatial relationships and finish selections, the model was also used to create daylighting studies of patient rooms.


During construction, we employ BIM as a coordination tool by working with all engineering trades to run clash detection.  We have worked both with and for contractors, with varying levels of involvement in BIM modeling.  We have provided design assistance due to field conditions, as well as full sets of coordination drawings.


WMBA uses the latest versions of Autodesk Revit, Navisworks Manage, 3DS Max, AutoCAD, and Showcase.  We have eleven employees in Architecture and Interior Design that are highly skilled in the use of these softwares and their applications to CHS projects, three of which are Revit Certified.  We have also catalogued an extensive library of references and tools that aid in the creation of construction documents, ensuring that efficiency and quality are a priority.


WMBA strives to keep current with BIM technology as it develops, participating in workshops to better our standards.  We often serve as a reference to consultants who need guidance with integrating those standards into their portion of the design.  BIM is integrated into our daily workflow and has become a natural part of our process.  In addition to renderings and construction coordination, we incorporate animations, real-time walkthroughs with the end user, asset management, equipment modeling and scheduling, cost estimation, energy analysis, record modeling, and laser scanning.  We have also participated in design reviews with the ability to make live changes, reducing the lag time in making and approving design modifications.  The combination of all of these elements creates a highly detailed, cohesive model that can be effectively used for Facilities Management.
