Atrium Health Union – 11 Bed Renovation

About This Project

With the opening of CHS Union’s Women Center addition, the original 6,573 square foot nursery and labor/delivery unit in the acute care building was no longer occupied. The Level 2 Renovation converted the vacant Labor/Delivery unit into an Eleven-Bed acute care unit with four bariatric rooms. In the new rooms, the patient enjoys contemporary finishes and a wooden headwall. The exterior wall was opened up, and new windows were installed. This was done to fill the rooms with natural daylight and give the patients direct views to the outside. Each room has a family zone with a sleeper sofa and a staff zone that provides space at the bedside for charting and patient care. Enlarged roll-in Patient Toilet/Showers are in all Patient Rooms and allow for increased ability to assist the patients. The four Bariatric Rooms are designed with larger doors, higher ceilings, patient lifts, and Bariatric Patient toilets/showers to make patients and their families more comfortable during their stay. The Nurse Station was reoriented to give the staff a visual to the visitor elevator/entrances and Patient Rooms. Charting alcoves are located throughout the unit to allow for flexibility, to keep the Nurse Station from being congested, and to help staff stay close to their patients.
