This project includes a major addition to the Emergency Department for Presbyterian Hospital – Matthews located in Matthews, North Carolina. Phase 1 of the work opened in August of 2005. The expansion adds to the trauma side of the department and includes 17 Multi-Treatment Bays, new entrances and canopies for Ambulatory and Ambulance patients, a new Waiting Room with a Child’s Play Area, Security Office, Triage Rooms and support spaces. Renovations to the existing building provided a modernization of the non-emergent side. To improve efficiency and work flow around the decentralized Nurse Stations, hand washing stations and seat height work counters are located on clipped corners. Security cameras are monitored from the Nurse Station, allowing visibility of the Waiting Rooms, Ambulance Entry, and Seclusion Holding Area. Telemetry printers are recessed in a niche directly beside the Pyxis Alcove within reach of the work counter.
